I was working a grave shift at LD ER; yes, I drove in the horrendous snow at 1:00am that morning and it wasn't pretty.

Day after Turkey Day!
Hello lovely cohorts! As I seem to be the planner, here's the plan: :)
What: Study Group
When: Friday Nov. 23
Where: Casa de Gibb
Time: 11:30 am
I figure if we meet early we can get started, plan our lay out, take whatever pics we need to, get as much completed as we can before the day is too shot. If we finish early afternoon/later afternoon, there should be plenty of time for shopping for those who want to go (which I think may just be Leilani) :)

Tonight's class
I'll try really hard to take notes, but I'm so tired tonight I'm struggling paying attention. Rossi of course isn't helping either as he's currently looking at Google Earth, of course. :)
Class Notes
Hey Guys,
The Samoan aunties have descended and there's a big family funeral going on tomorrow. I won't be in class this week, could you take notes for me?
Thanks,
Leilani

For Tuesday 10/30
If I understand the book correctly, the assignment due next week will be the instructional strategy stage. It states there are five components for this stage and they are:
A. Preinstructional activities
1. Gain attention and motivate learners
2. Describe objectives
3. Describe and promote recall of prerequisite skills
B. Content presentation
1. Content
2. Examples
C. Learner participation
1. Practice
2. Feedback
D. Assessment (I see this being the hardest one to show/prove)
1. Entry behavior test
2. Pretest
3. Posttest
E. Follow-through activities
1. Memory aids for retention
2. Transfer considerations
Does everyone want to come prepared with ideas for tomorrow so we can get a jump start on this? We also have our article presentation due the same day as this assignment, so we have double the work to do in a week and a half.

Class for this week
Rossi, Lani and I are going to have to meet you at class due to the fact we're in a tech workshop Wed. and Thurs. and get out at 3:30. We just don't think there's enough time to make it to a trax stop and get food and get to class in time. So, we'll see you there :)

Wednesday, in lieu of class....
Let's meet at my place at 3:30 to hunker down and start writing this analysis thing. When I get home from work tonight, around 10:00, I'll email you two the start of the analysis I began last week (if I can find it on my computer). We may be at it for awhile tomorrow, so come comfy and ready to figure out what the heck the analysis paper is! :)
Lani, am sure I'm as relieved as you were when you finished; what a weight off of the shoulders, eh?
See you two Wednesday; I'll be there at 3:30, promise, no errands this time :)

Finished!
I really hope that I made sense throughout the mid-term I just completed. It was more difficult for me to apply the principles that weren't found, then the one's that were. I'm just glad it's over!
Are we meeting at your place this week Joanna?

Over and Over Again
Taking the midterm more than once definitely sucks, especially when I've started it in three different settings and so I think I've officially started taking it for the fifth time! Please bless some crazy supernatural event doesn't occur or two seriously may be visiting me in the looney bin :) Hope you had a great weekend! Lani, shall we discuss the madness of the midterm when we're both done, or just ignore the madness?

The Midterm
is kicking my butt! It's not going to be finished in three hours I can tell you that much! :) Hope conferences were a bit less hectic tonight! Talk to you soon!

Holy Cow!
How was class you two? Thanks for the notes Joanna, I appreciate them. Thanks as well to the both of you for covering our presentation. How did it go?
Does Fall Break mean we don't have class Wed. or Thurs. night?
Would you like to know how many parents I had tonight? We had sign up sheets...30 to a page and I went through two pages and four lines of another. That's 64 conferences. I started right at 4 and had a line right up until 7:55...no breaks. We are so watching a movie tomorrow!
Joanna - I still don't have any info on our Thursday mid-term, although I did ask for the sites from Professor Riboldi. I'm in the process of getting my notes in order as well...I'm shooting for a 10 am deadline. You know, I'll work during Nemo or whatever I have my students watch.

Lani, oh lani
Hope you are having a fabulous parent teacher conference full of educated and important parents who want to know why their child received a 99% instead of a 100% on their essay! :)

No meeting yesterday.
Lani - Jo forwarded the WebQwest Powerpoint to me, so I have them both ready to go on a CD. Thanks.
Gibb,
I'm assuming we're meeting at Trax at 3 as usual. If not - call me, please.

Just for my study-buddies......
Monday????
As I'm studying in my cozy house I'm thinking "Is there a reason to get together tomorrow afternoon?" Do you two feel we should? I can review the powerpoint to be ready for Wed. and the webquest when Leilani sends it to me :), so would we just be studying tomorrow? Rossi already knows what he's doing, and Leilani is a genius, I'm the only non bright individual in the group so maybe we can bag the getting together and focus on what we need to for class? Thoughts? Opinions? I don't care if you come over, I can always get more Route 44's, but just thought it'd give you some down time at the beginning of the week. :)

As much as I'd like to........
Here's the problem. If you've been following what's going on at my blog, you'd know that if I don't go ahead with the tattoo, I'm going to be the ridicule of a) my family and b) the entire Magna community.
So, even if we decide to do something much more mundane, I still think I want to go through with it, and hopefully Sofi (did I spell it right?) will still be willing to give me the tattoo, if Leilani doesn't mind.
Just some thoughts. Oh, by the way, what time are we meeting tomorrow - I'm assuming around 10? let me know.

Project Thoughts
Joanna, I was having those same thoughts last night. Particularly in reference to who our audience is. We may want to rethink things. However, the same could be said for the bread group. Who would the target audience be for bread making? Bakers? I dunno, but I've been thinking those lines.
Fabulous notes!
Thanks Leilani for taking such great notes! I've been thinking, and Max isn't going to like this, but after talking to Lani last night, how effective is it going to be to do the Tongan tattoo? who is our audience? Based on the comments Lani made about Wednesday night, not having a classroom be our only audience, who else would be our audience for a Tongan tattoo? should we simplify it since it's the process that's important and not the product? Just throwing a thought out there.
Thursday Night's Class Breakdown
First Hour -
A very long explanation of Situated Cognition. A theory with which I am still unfamiliar. We discussed Ausubel's Meaningful Reception Learning and I tried, I really did, but I'm still floundering. Mostly because I must be inherently stupid. I think it would be beneficial to study a bit together on Saturday.

Mid-term
- We’ll be given a couple scenarios (web pages perhaps). We’ll then have time to analyze one scenario from different points of view (behaviorism, cognitive information processing, meaningful learning, schema theory).
- We choose which learning theories apply to each scenario.
- We can expect a similar format for the final.
- After the test, we'll give feeback detailing how effective we felt the test was.
Great News - It's Open Book! Woo hoo!!
Bad News - It's what P.R. calls a "middle to long essay"
Basically, with our books nicely highligted and a review of the four learning theories we've covered thus far, I think we'll be fine. ("I'm fine-d.")

Class Tonight
Hello Group,
We talked about Task and Learner Analysis this evening...lots of good info and things to think about. I'll share in detail on Saturday.
Monson's comments about everybody's ADDIE project (by everybody, I mean the whole class):
1. "Is Classroom Instruction the angle to use?" Is it the best solution? It's what we're familiar with (and we, along with 5 other groups did Driver's Ed. Great idea Rossi).
2. Too many steps. Do people really remember a ton of little steps? Not so much.
3. Well done overall, although most of us were stronger on production than on task analysis.
Feedback about our personal project:
* Watch the zoom, the picture shifts back and forth and is jumpy in spots.
Leilani's Personal Concerns:
* Our Task Analysis...who is our audience? We really need to pin that down and decide on relevance. Is there a need for cultural tattoo instruction? If so, who needs it?
* Tonight in class we talked about getting info about our learners from our learners. Once again, we need to be thinking about who our learners are.
* We need to start with the "Big Rocks," or major steps in the process. I have no personal knowledge of this, but will be investigating. Then we get to break it down...to the point of silliness (remember the time that Ross kept telling Chandler and Monica that their fight was based on silliness? I think of that every time:)
* Time. We are running out of it in a major way. It's a good thing we have this Saturday.
* Another concern I'm having at this exact moment is the attention hogs that are prolonging my stay in class. I'm waiting for Monson to give me feedback about our group and the uptight individuals behind me won't shut the H up. For the love! I live way the BFE out in Orem!! And it's dark out. I could be attacked as I make my lonesome way up to the Institute. Selfish. And dumb. They are arguing over bread making. I hate them.
* Waiting....still waiting.
* Screw it. I'll post more tomorrow.

Rossi
I have perused your blog, and am ready to share my thoughts. I have just one (about this subject, not entirely), I think it would be nice if you were to share more of your of your own opinions within the class notes. You've got good notes, but what do they mean to YOU.
There you go.
So how jealous is your brother? I'd like to mention that you're a bad influence all around...Sofi's wanting a new tat as well.

Hey Guys
Sorry Joanna!!!
Here is my blog addy...I thought I sent it Monday, but I just found the draft. I'll update you guys on class tonight.
http://leilanisthoughtsedps6430.blogspot.com/
Rossi - Dr. Monson hadn't created the topic for us yet, which is why you couldn't post our questions. He's creating the topic and I'll get those questions in the right place.
Quick note on our A.D.D.I.E. project....apparently Dr. M. had to have a million plug-ins to view our project. Katie just informed me that we could have exported it as a Quick Time movie, which is apparently much simpler. Good to know for next time. LOL

Can't make a new topic.
It's 3 in the morning and I couldn't figure out how to make a new topic on the discussion board - so instead of adding "Article #3 - Instructional Design; A Question of Meaning" all our questions are under the title "Introductory Discussion". Lani - tell him I'm sorry I didn't get it under it's own topic - and see you Thursday in the other class......

In case you didn't figure this out, here's my blog for Wednesday's class for you to 'interpret and assess'. :)

My two questions....
Question 1:
"Herbert Simon views technology as man's way of interfacing between the in (natural) and outer (artificial) environments (Simon, 1969, p.9)" What exactly does this statement mean? Do you agree with this? Is a person unable to connect to both environments unless they have technology?
Question 2:
Professor Robert Heinich makes the comment that a technology of instruction is needed in order to make an ordinary person capable of superior performance and a means, either printed or electronic, to distribute that instruction. If an instructor doesn't use the latest and greatest technology to introduce new ideas and instruction to his pupils, does that make him/her less of an expert in their content or better yet, less of an instructor period? There are those instructors who rely on traditional methods (the blackboard, the overheads, the textbook from the mid-50's) that are considered effective instructors, but barely know how to use their email, let alone an LCD projector or a document camera.

My 2 cents worth
The two questions I cam up with are :
and
What is the difference between instructional and educational technology.
Does technology imply machinery?
and
What is the difference between instructional and educational technology.
Article Questions
Ok. Here they are.
1. Do you agree or disagree with Admiral Rickover's statement that "technology may be potentially dangerous if it is allowed to disregard human considerations?" In an educational setting, how might technology be dangerous?
2. In the article, the comment is made that technology is "value free." What do you suppose this means and how does it affect instructional design?

Final Project Decision Made?
So Rossi's getting a traditional Tongan applied tattoo. Good for you! :) Should we get together this thursday and discuss the project over dinner, or should we discuss Thursday's class over dinner? I was thinking maybe we could meet in the Ft. Union area so that Rossi and I are going South and Loni only has to come North a bit. sort of a sentral locale for all of us? Maybe we could do Chiles or Paradise Bakery? Just throwing out some options.
Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Big Project
Any bright ideas for our big project? How to........? I can't think of anything that's not stupid.

TaDa!!!!
And it's one dang fine project if I do say so myself. Good job to the two of you - the video is awesome, and the voice over is classic.

Ta Da!!!!!!!!
Project ADDIE is finished and has been emailed off to the professor! Good work Team One!!!
TODAY! Monday Sept 10
Lani, today at my house to do the script, yes? Rossi is doing the documentation to hand to Monson, so we just need to do the voice over and then I can send it to Monson. I can't check this from work, stupid district, so email my work email for when you want to come. I'll be home by 4:00 if that works for you.

Rossi and I think we should still get together during our class time, but lets have class at my house. We'll pick up snacks and have a get together anyway, and maybe we could start and end sooner the regular scheduled time.

Umm, what?
I'm tired of trying to keep everything straight between Wed and Thurs! May I have time to sleep and go the bathroom please! Oh yeah, and maybe eat a banana or a piece of bread for nourishment would be nice!
More Meeting
Are we really supposed to do all this by next class? Do we have no life?
Anyway, Friday is good for me, as almost always.

Meeting Again
Friday works for me...as does Monday. I just need to know about Friday ASAP...carpool issues. Also, Joanna, do you really think that after working for 12 hours you're going to want to do homework? I'm volunteering to do the script....Rossi changed the tire, Joanna has played with the pictures, I should probably contribute as well. :)
Continuation of the project
I'm thinking we should get together Friday after work. We could again all meet at my place, if that works for everyone, and write the script for the voice over, or at least Loni could meet at my house and we could go through the process. Then we could meet either Sunday evening or Monday evening to finalize the movie, maybe email it to the professor and then figure out the final documentation to be handed in, or emailed along with the movie? Let me know your thoughts. Also, Saturday night could work, but remember, I am working from 7 am - 7:30 pm so I won't be available until 8:00 pm.

Thanks
Thanks Nikita for all the work on the video - I'm sure it's going to be good. Just so I don't forget - we should add a component in the design where the teacher takes ther class out to a car and gives them the opportunity to actually change a tire.

The Video
Hello Team! I just spent the better part of the last three hours editing our tire video. I'm trying see how smooth it looks and what music, voice over, etc does to it. I've shortened each slide anywhere from 2.7 seconds to 3.0 seconds, as the default is 4 seconds and that seems a little too long. I've tried to email it to Loni, but it's not working, must be too big or I've yet to figure anything out. I only have your personal email Loni, so you need to send me your work one so you can write a script for it while at work, as that's the only place you'll be able to access it.
Maybe we could get together Tuesday to write the script (Loni, as I know Max is working). Once the script is written maybe sometime this week Max and I could get together and work on the voice over, and then we could all get together Saturday evening when I'm off work, or Sunday evening, whatever is best for whomever.
Until further notice, this is Nikita going back to putting cheesy love songs to Max's pics as he changes our lovely tire.

First Get Together
is this Saturday, at Nikita's house, 1:00 pm. Bring snacks if you want food b/c right now there's only water and bread for brain food :)
Welcome.
Hey guys, good thing we figured out how to set this up for all of us to post. For those of you who just happened to stumble upon this blog - we set this up so we can discuss our assignments, prepare for class and set up times to get together.
